Rihanna Made Ambassador For Her Native Barbados

With eight Grammys, two Brit awards and nine UK number ones, a fashion business and a charitable foundation, Robyn Fenty, popularly known as Rihanna  now has another facet to her glittering CV - Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary' in her home country, Barbados. The singer was conferred with the role by Prime Minister Mia Amor Mottley.

The role which involves promoting education, tourism and investment, appears to be in line with Rhianna’s love for her country as is evident in her philanthropic and patriotic activities.

The Barbados born singer has enjoyed successes as a fashion designer, an actress and as an artiste, selling over 250 million records globally. She also launched her make up collection last year.

Now referred to as Ambassador Fenty by the Barbados government, Rihanna in a statement while accepting the role said she couldn’t be more proud to take on such a prestigious role in her home country”.

Alongside her musical career, Rihanna has amassed an estimated net worth of $210m (£160m), has a number of business ventures, notably in the world of fashion and cosmetics.

The pop star has also been a vocal commentator on political and social issues.

In 2017 she was a prominent critic of President Donald Trump's response to the devastation wrought by Hurricane Maria on Puerto Rico.

The same year she called for an end to gun violence after a cousin was shot dead in Barbados.

In March she almost single-handedly wiped one billion dollars (£760m) off Snapchat's value after criticising the app for an advert that appeared to make light of domestic violence.
